The Source of True Self Worth
Resistance to awareness of our weaknesses in these aspects of our lives is normal. We find ourselves wanting quietly, or even desperately, to be better than we are in some way, and to see ourselves better than we do now, but the resistance to change is so subtly powerful that we turn from the thoughts and actions that would lead to positive change.
Take a moment to consider these words - "a gentle, genuine humility that is founded in the greatest love the world has ever known"? Did you just experience a resistance to being humble, to feeling humility?
The deep acceptance of ourselves and sense of self worth are not innately found within us. Self worth is not based in our minds, or bodies, our words or our most honorable intentions. We are by nature sinful, unable to be truly worthy in and of ourselves. Our human nature is amazing, but not complete and deeply flawed.
Within each of us lies a place that longs for the beauty and freedom of unmerited self acceptance, where we humbly know we are worthy to be, to have, to become - that place can only be known in the love of Jesus Christ which is the love of God himself.
Our self worth is found in Jesus Christ alone. His birth, life, teaching and miracles, his sacrifice on our behalf through his death on the cross, and then his resurrection from death is the only love and reality that heals and covers the deep truth of our spiritual inadequacy and inability to be worthy in and of ourselves.
Recognizing our sinful human nature which can never be good enough to earn and sustain a true and deep self worth; repenting of our personal sins which even the best of people have; recognizing our human spiritual separation from God; and accepting the death of Jesus as the final and eternal sacrifice on our behalf opens the door to finding a true and lasting sense of self worth. The wonder and freedom of knowing and experiencing the great, great, all satisfying love of God is available to us through his perfect Son.
If you would like to know more about Jesus Christ and his heart of immeasurable love for you, please send me an email. I would love to tell you more about him.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall have eternal life." John 3:16
